Are the Kardashians-Jenners feminists?
Back to question

The Kardashians empower females to be comfortable with their bodies

The Kardashian-Jenners demonstrate that women have the freedom to express themselves and their bodies however they please. They exemplify how females should be allowed to be comfortable in their own skin without being objectified by others.

The Argument

The Kardashian-Jenner family empowers other women, as well as changes the way people and social media view female bodies. By posting pictures and videos of themselves wearing lingerie and simply being naked, they have improved the world's thinking of femininity.[1] They show the media it is okay to be expressive and proud of one's body. The Kardashians have previously spoken out about their passion for empowering and inspiring young women in beauty, fashion, sexuality, and entrepreneurship. Kim Kardashian is often criticized for her body and sexuality due to a sex tape with Ray J, which was leaked in 2007.[2] Despite the previous hate, she still posts images of herself on social medial due to her empowerment and confidence. Kim wishes to teach women to feel empowered by their bodies. By posting numerous images of their bodies to social media, the Kardashian-Jenner sisters have altered the societal perception of female bodies. Their self-objectification has helped expand their companies into the empires they are today. They have made intimate and nude photos more common and acceptable on social media. By posting more personal photos and videos of themselves, it encourages other women to post the same content. The Kardashians have taught women to feel empowered in themselves, as well as how to use their femininity and sexuality to their advantage.[3]

Counter arguments

The Kardashian-Jenners do not empower female bodies. Kim, Kylie, and other members of the family have had multiple plastic surgery procedures to alter their faces and bodies so they can be more attractive. They have paid for the "perfect" female body. When the Kardashians post pictures of their perfect bodies, it creates insecurity in women due to looking different. Women may aspire to have a face or body of a Kardashian, yet this is only achievable with money and plastic surgery. Despite the Kardashians' intentions to be empowering, they are tainting the expectations for beauty.
