Rules of Engagement

At Parlia, we love disagreement. The only way for us to get to the root of different debates, to truly understand why people think what they think, is to hear opposing opinions.

However, we also want our Parlia community to be a safe place for this disagreement; a haven of civil discourse at a time when it feels like this is increasingly unattainable. To this end, Parlia upholds the following rules when engaging with the community.

• We don’t take kindly to insults: Discriminatory, defamatory or just plain insulting language of any kind towards other users will not be tolerated. Personal attacks don’t belong anywhere, but especially not on Parlia.
  
• How would Gandhi argue?: When engaging with other users, remain respectful and polite. If you disagree with another user, do so in a way you would want to be disagreed with. Everyone on Parlia is working towards a shared goal; other users are members of your community, not enemies.
  
• Agree to disagree: Parlia is not primarily a place for debates to take place. While engaging with others’ opinions is great, our major goal is to record these differences in opinion for people to make up their own minds.
  
• It takes all kinds: Even if you personally find a point of view to be repugnant, this doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be on the site. Please do not remove any content just because you disagree. Make the Counter Argument as convincing as possible instead!
  
• RT ≠ Endorsement: Just because a user records an Argument on the site doesn’t mean they agree with it. Do not take what someone has written as a reflection of their personality or personal views.
  
  
• Above all else: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
