I have previously worked for Al Jazeera as an Online Editor in charge of the Africa Desk (web). I was hired by Al Jazeera in 2008, and I became the first journalist from Sub-Saharan Africa to hold this position at the network. I joined Al Jazeera after working in Uganda as a print journalist. At Al Jazeera, I served as Assistant News Editor/Deputy Editor for four years before I became Africa Editor/Team Leader. As Team Leader of the Africa Desk, I provided editorial leadership and strategy and oversaw coverage of Africa (news and features) for the web desk. The role involved laying the groundwork for setting up the desk from scratch; managing a team of digital producers and interns in Doha, Qatar; drafting editorial guidelines for freelance journalists across Africa and planning coverage; liaising and consulting with the PR and Communications department to promote and increase visibility of the Desk to our audiences.
